October 2009 Entries
I was at the World Series on Thursday night - game two!!  One word - priceless!  The Yankees won 3-1 - what a game - a nail biter the entire evening.  AJ Burnett was incredible. Pedro was PERDO and the crowd was on him all night.  The only concern is that the yanks have to get hitting!  Now we go to Philly -- Broadway meets Broad Street. This is going to be some series!

Yahoooo!  After a number of years of sitting at home and completely disinterested in the World Series, except when praying that the Red Sox would be defeated....my beloved Yanks are back in the fall classic!  They will face a strong Phillie team, reigning world champs in what will be dubbed the "I-95 Series."  Crazy right, in an age when jetting around the world is in fashion, these two teams will board buses each day to travel to their opposing teams' stadiums.  Not being bias -  huh? - I say the Yanks in 6 games.  They should win game one with CC on the mound and rested.  Game 2 will be a blood bath with Pedro returning to the stadium and wild man Burnett pitching for the yanks.  Expect someone getting beaned!  But Yanks will prevail in extra innings. Phils will come back and win game three at home - that will bring CC back for game four- lights out.  Phils will win in desperation at game five. But it will be so close that no one will feel confident.  That has the Yanks up 3-2 headed back to the Bronx.  Pettite then pitches a classic "Andy Dandy" and the Yankees claim #27 for George!

MVP of the series will be Texieria who will break out in the series.  He has been incredible with his glove and silent with the bat so far, but the Series will do something to him!!!  A-Rod and Jeter will be solid.  On the Phils side, Ryan Howard will struggle and might be the main reason the Phils can't get it done.  Also their pitching will struggle. All in all, it will be a great classic match up. Below is the reason why the Yankees are America's most dominating sports franchise!!!

I am not throwing in the towel - I am too loyal of a fan, but I was disappointed last night (Game 5 of ALCS) that the Yanks did not finish off the Angels.  They came back in the 7th inning and were up 6-4 after trailing 4-0 the whole game. The bottom of the eighth after sitting around for 30 minutes they should have hooked Burnett but instead they let him go out there.  Or should I say, Giradi did!  Mistake!!  They should have sent out Robinson - then Joba - then MO....we're in the series!  I hope all works for Saturday night - Andy don't let us down and then I will be at Game 2 of the Series!!!
Six weeks since I got my gizzard clipped and doing great.  I had my six week check up yesterday and got a clean bill of health.  I have lost a total of....drum roll please...81 lbs.  That is crazy!!!  41 before and 40 since the operation. Today I began REGULAR food... not sure that that matters. I can only eat a 4-6 oz. meal at a time, but it is nice to have some options and to get back some of my taste buds. Like last night I had a little salad - first since September 6th! I am wearing pants that are six sizes smaller and my belts now wrap around to my back - better think about buying a new belt, huh?  Overall, have done well.  Only one time did I have a bad reaction to food.  Ordered some Mahi Mahi fish -- too dense and hard to "get through" the pouch. So you throw up and all is better.  My next check up is December 8th and the doctor has a goal of 16 lbs. -- I am looking at 23 lbs. and then I will be at my wedding weight!  Keep praying!
This was written by Dave Barry, who is a Pulitzer Prize-winning humor columnist for the Miami Herald. You will appreciate this more if you had a colonoscopy.  I can fully relate! ENJOY!

Colonoscopy Journal

I called my friend Andy Sable, a gastroenterologist, to make an appointment for a colonoscopy.  A few days later, in his office, Andy showed me a color diagram of the colon, a lengthy organ that appears to go all over the place, at one point passing briefly through Minneapolis. Then Andy explained the colonoscopy procedure to me in a thorough, reassuring and patient manner.

I nodded thoughtfully, but I didn't really hear anything he said, because my brain was shrieking, 'HE'S GOING TO STICK A TUBE 17,000 FEET UP YOUR BEHIND!'

I left Andy's office with some written instructions, and a prescription for a product called 'MoviPrep,' which comes in a box large enough to hold a microwave oven.  I will discuss MoviPrep in detail later; for now suffice it to say that we must never allow it to fall into the hands of   America 's enemies.

I spent the next several days productively sitting around being nervous.   Then, on the day before my colonoscopy, I began my preparation.  In accordance with my instructions, I didn't eat any solid food that day; all I had was chicken broth, which is basically water, only with less flavor.  Then, in the evening, I took the MoviPrep.  You mix two packets of powder together in a one-liter plastic jug, then you fill it with lukewarm water. (For those unfamiliar with the metric system, a liter is about 32 gallons). Then you have to drink the whole jug. This takes about an hour, because MoviPrep tastes - and here I am being kind - like a mixture of goat spit and urinal cleanser, with just a hint of lemon.

The instructions for MoviPrep, 20 clearly written by somebody with a great sense of humor, state that after you drink it, 'a loose, watery bowel movement may result.' This is kind of like saying that after you jump off your roof, you may experience contact with the ground. MoviPrep is a nuclear laxative I don't want to be too graphic, here, but, have you ever seen a space-shuttle launch?  This is pretty much the MoviPrep experience, with you as the shuttle. There are times when you wish the commode had a seat belt.  You spend several hours pretty much confined to the bathroom, spurting violently -- You eliminate everything.  And then, when you figure you must be totally empty, you have to drink another liter of MoviPrep, at which point, as far as I can tell, your bowels travel into the future and start eliminating food that you have not even eaten yet.  After an action-packed evening, I finally got to sleep.

The next morning my wife drove me to the clinic. I was very nervous.  Not only was I worried about the procedure, but I had been experiencing occasional return bouts of MoviPrep spurtage.  I was thinking, 'What if I spurt on Andy?'  How do you apologize to a friend for something like that?  Flowers would not be enough.

At the clinic I had to sign many forms acknowledging that I understood and totally agreed with whatever the heck the forms said. Then they led me to a room full of other colonoscopy people, where I went inside a little curtained space and took off my clothes and put on one of those hospital garments designed by sadist perverts, the kind that, when you put it on, makes you feel even more naked than when you are actually naked.

Then a nurse named Eddie put a little needle in a vein in my left hand.  Ordinarily I would have fainted, but Eddie was very good, and I was already lying down.  Eddie also told me that some people put vodka in their MoviPrep.  At first I was ticked off that I hadn't thought of this, but then I pondered what would happen if you got yourself too tipsy to make it to the bathroom, so you were staggering around in full Fire Hose Mode.  You would have no choice but to burn your house.  When everything was ready, Eddie wheeled me into the procedure room, where Andy was waiting with a nurse and an anesthesiologist.  I did not see the 17,000-foot tube, but I knew Andy had it hidden around there somewhere.  I was seriously nervous at this point.

Andy had me roll over on my left side, and the anesthesiologist began hooking something up to the needle in my hand. There was music playing in the room, and I realized that the song was 'Dancing Queen' by ABBA.  I remarked to Andy that, of all the songs that could be playing during this particular procedure, 'Dancing Queen' had to be the least appropriate.

'You want me to turn it up?' said Andy, from somewhere behind me. 'Ha ha,' I said.  And then it was time, the moment I had been dreading for more than a decade.  If you are squeamish, prepare yourself, because I am going to tell you, in explicit detail, exactly what it was like.  I have no idea.  Really. I slept through it.  One moment, ABBA was yelling 'Dancing Queen, feel the beat of the tambourine,' and the next moment, I was back in the other room, waking up in a very mellow mood. Andy was looking down at me and asking me how I felt.  I felt excellent.  I felt even more excellent when Andy told me that It was all over, and that my colon had passed with flying colors.  I have never been prouder of an internal organ.

Well I went and did it on Friday.  I could not help myself and to be honest I never figured that asking a simple (but provocative - I admit it) question would rise up such a violent response.  On Friday as the world now knows our President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. As we are also very aware there was broad questioning of why he won it?  The sentiment was that he did not do anything to earn it. SOOOOOOOOO

I posted on my "thinking about" section these words....

Jamie Mitchell is baffled...who was on his job for two weeks (when he was nominated); has accomplished nothing of global significance; beat out a woman who has been equipping oppressed women in Afghanistan get medical help and education suffering for four years; and... he has vocally and unashamedly spoke poorly about the country in which he is president??? Answer: The Nobel Peace prize fraud -- Barack Hussan Obama

This brought out some anger "friends" and then I poised a challenge - will anyone give me ONE visible, legitimate accomplishment that BO has done to deserve this award?

I received over a 100 responses - 85% negative. People writing how a pastor should not speak so negatively about our president (anyone every listen to Jeremiah Wright) -- That I  was a racist -- I 34% of the US hates Bush and the Reps so it doesn't matter if he did anything...  bizzarre!

The backlash of people was amazing.  But here is my point -- there was not ONE person who obviously was in favor of the Prez winning the award who gave me a viable accomplishment worthy of the prize. Accuses by the dozens. Unfair critical, may that is a viable accomplish, because he has invoked plenty.  I know "hope" -- he won on hope...just like most of the those defending him voted for hope. because the fact is he has not done a thing while in the senate - remember he only served for four years and two of those years he was absent campaiging to be Presdient -- a total of 186 days working in the senate prior to election of president.  It was not the accomplishments as State senator -- he voted "present" over a 100 times -- more then a yes/no vote combined.  He was non-commital.  The reason was because if you commit then people will know who you are.  If we know who you are then we would probably vote against you!  But if you are selling hopes, Dreams, Wishs, Good feeling and ideas that have never been tested and when tested a complete failure....well you get the picture.

It was a stunning experiment. It revealed how little people think and mostly emote.  Sadly the most disappointing were Christians who thought that as Christians we should say nothing - never criticize....never speak up and share our mind.... that their is some "unspiritual" about standing up against political leaders who make evil decisions and are enemies of the Biblical values and beliefs we hold dear.

Remember these words... "For evil to prevail - good men do nothing."  How about telling Bonhoffer, a German pastor who fought openly, verbally and agressive against Hitler.  Pastors then said he was unspiritual.  Today we call him a hero of the faith.
Ok this week I face a first - I am doing a senior's retreat.  AFter years of speaking to youth and mostly family conference that lean towards the youthful side of life -- I am on the docket to speak at Sandy Cove to the senior's ministry of Bayside Chapel in NJ. I am kind of nervous. My hair. My jokes. My illustrations.  Not usually geared toward the seasoned citizen. Better go to a doctor's office near Willow Valley retirement and start reading all the AARP literature i can!  Pray for me!
Many Americans were angst by the awarding of the Nobel Peace prize to Barack Obama. The cries and complains ranged from “what has he done?”…. “name one truly worthy accomplishment to earn the prize?”…. “The prize and its committee are so devalued and meaningless by this selection.” Obviously the peace award has not caused peace among the political pundits and AM talk radio heads. I am astonished as well by the politically motivated nature of the NP committee. Their openly known hatred for George Bush and his policies to attack terrorism before it attacks us, motivated them to award people like Jimmy Carter (2002), Arafat and then in 2006 Al “Save the Planet but I still fly a corporate jet” Gore. This is just another decision by a bias, liberal think tank set on making the USA as irrelevant as the rest of the socialistic European nations.
I guess the worst thing about this decision was the people who were passed over. Just for the record, the NPC nominated Obama 12 days after taking office. At that point he had not figured out where the men’s room was in the West Wing. That is outrageous when you think it and you see the political mojo behind the decision. But look at the list of the people they passed over to give it to the Teleprompter Prez….
Meet the People Who Were Passed Over for Obama
Sima Samar, women's rights activist in Afghanistan: "With dogged persistence and at great personal risk, she kept her schools and clinics open in Afghanistan even during the most repressive days of the Taliban regime, whose laws prohibited the education of girls past the age of eight. When the Taliban fell, Samar returned to Kabul and accepted the post of Minister for Women's Affairs."
Ingrid Betancourt: French-Colombian ex-hostage held for six years.
"Dr. Denis Mukwege: Doctor, founder and head of Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo. He has dedicated his life to helping Congolese women and girls who are victims of gang rape and brutal sexual violence."
Handicap International and Cluster Munition Coalition: "These organizations are recognized for their consistently serious efforts to clean up cluster bombs, also known as land mines. Innocent civilians are regularly killed worldwide because the unseen bombs explode when stepped upon."
"Hu Jia, a human rights activist and an outspoken critic of the Chinese government, who was sentenced last year to a three-and-a-half-year prison term for 'inciting subversion of state power.'"

"Wei Jingsheng
, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China's communist system. He now lives in the United States."

Where are the feminist groups inflamed with outrage that BO (that is short for Barack Obama and not the presidential dog) got an award for NO ACCOMPLISHMENTS and Ms. Samar who rightfully deserved the award was passed over. Where are the disability lobbyists protesting that their coalition was dissed by the politically drive NPC. I am looking for someone to be upset! But the silence is deafening.
This past week we began as a church a campaign to emerse our church in the idea of worship. At newSong we teach that there are six essential ingredients of being a follower of Christ and we use WISDOM (thus the name of my blog). Each fall for the next few years we are going to highlight one of these aspects and this year - its WORSHIP.  We have prepared a 40 day devotional guide that each family has. We have produced a DVD small group teaching and stidy guide for five weeks of small group discussion and we are offering special SOD classes to prick the understanding about worship. The culmination is November 14-15 when Andi Rozier, worship pastor at HArvest Bible where James Macdonald is will be with us to lead a worship seminar and lead a Sunday celebration about worship. I have always appreciated Rick Warren's understanding that a church needs to concentrate a period of time to core elements of our faith. His 40 days of Purpose has made a big difference in churches. i like the format and believe that churches each year should do an all church intergrated learning experinces around certain key spiritual growth issues. I pray that this will make for a great time of growth and the first of many types of campaigns.

I was listening to some reps on talk radio and cable news the other night. I felt bad for them for a moment when you consider that they are really up against it in Washington. The White House, Senate and House are all controled by the dems plus the margin of votes in the Senate gives a filabuster proof opposition. Basically the reps could get out the beach chairs and watch the dems work and hope for a turn around in 2010.

However my sympathy turned when I thought back just a couple of years ago when the dems were no in power and how they approached every day - like it was war. They openly, agressively and obnoxiously declared war on Bush and everything GOP. They started their day announcing how pitiful, incompetent and dangerous Bush was. They would use words like... "THIS PRESIDENT..." and then would sling forth their opposition. They acted as if they were in power and they were setting the agenda. You got to give it to them they never rolled over and played death. The news came to their press conferences (partly because of their liberal bias) but because they gave them something to write about.

Harry Reid flippantly sad the President lied....he was a murderer....he is destorying our country. In a real sense the dems and Big O are doing the same but do you hear the GOP use any of that language. We would say they the dems were hateful, vitroiolic and divisive. Yet they understood that as the opposition party their task was to fearlessly oppose!

You could say that the GOP is classy, stand up people, and have moral rightness and so they will not stoop to that level of politics. I say if they don't get some fire in the belly and start acting edgy they should bring beach chairs into the house chamber. Macevelli wrote that one of the sure ways for underdogs to defeat a stronger opponnent was to be "unpredictable" -- there is something empowering to the wildcat, the loose cannon, the crazy man/woman who force people to be nervous, to be fearful, on the defense.  We saw this in the recent undercover films that exposed ACORN. For a week or so, they rolled out one video after another, they were unpredictable. ACORN and their defenders were silenced because they did not know how much more was going to be revealed. they did not know what was coming next.

I saw the GOP go for broke. Start holding court publicly about Charlie Rangle's finances. Harry Reid's sweetheart deals in Nevada. Nancy Pelosi's tax breaks on her CA Vineyards. Start turning the light on corruption. I would hire Private Investigators to do the work of a the House Ethics committee if the Dems will not allow full vetting of these questionable activities. The GOP needs to stop being political whimps and fight like a street dog. They need to openly attack the President - Joe Wilson had it right - when he lies, call him a liar!

Obama has an uncanny way to rebound as we are seeing in this health care debate. In August we thougfht it was dead. And even though he will not get all he wanted, he will get a lot and it will devastate our way of life. The GOP needs to knock the dems to the canvass, then like a street fight, step on their necks and finish it. You let a wounded person off the ground it is worst, because now they will fight like they have nothing to lose. Right now they do not want to lose their power and they are pretty confident. Take advantage of them letting their hands down in the fight. Stop being a whimp!

Well it was one month ago today and I hit 70 lbs! That would be 29 lbs since the surgery and right on pace for my monthly goal of 16 lbs down. Today is another exciting day - I progress from pureed foods to "soft foods" - all that means is that I am not pureeing the food that I can eat. But it does make meal time a little less juvenile. I am still working oujt five days a week. George my trainer has changed up the routine where I am doing arms one day, then legs, then just cardio and back again. On the clothing front, it is becoming a problem. Some belts are wrapping around my waist and pants are extremely baggy. Yesterday Kris was at K MArt and saw summer shorts on sale. Seeing that we are going to FLA for our 25th anniversary she took a chance and bought me some shorts. I have no idea what my size is now. Well she bought me shorts that were SIX sizes smaller then I was wearing and they fit. In two weeks as i head off to Mouse world they should be loose! Crazy right. Two weeks I have my six week check up need to be down another ten from where I am. That puts me in reach of my goal of a 100 off by my neice's wedding in January. I have already decided to rent a tux!  PJM
My cousin emailed this to me....hillarious!
If a conservative doesn’t like guns, he doesn`t buy one.
If a   liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn`t eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a conservative sees a foreign threat, he thinks about how to defeat his enemy.
A liberal wonders how to surrender gracefully and still look good.

If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a black man or Hispanic are conservative, they see themselves as independently successful.
Their liberal counterparts see themselves as victims in need of government protection.

If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a conservative doesn’t like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that those they don’t like be shut down.

If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn’t go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced. (Unless it’s a foreign religion, of course!)

If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that  provides it.
A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.

If a conservative slips and falls in a store, he gets up, laughs and is embarrassed.
If a liberal slips and falls, he grabs his neck, moans like he's in labor and then sues.

If a conservative reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh.
A liberal will delete it because he's "offended".

After last year's mega celebration of our tenth anniversary, this year was pretty low key, however a power day. We had Dr. Jim Ayers from Lancaster Bible College as a guest speaker. He preached on Numbers 13-14 as the spies returned from checking out the Promise Land. It was a 40 day journey and then they gave a report on day 41...the problem was that their report lacked faith, was full of fear and caused the Lord God to consider wiping out all of the Hebrew people. This was a great challenge considering we are about to go into a church wide campaign - 40 Days of Worship. His simple yet profound exhortation - what will happen on day 41!  It was great.

Also that morning we had Con. Joe Pitts pray and give a challenge on what to do as Christian citizens. Joe is a great friend and we were honored to have him. Also Mayor Rick Gray attended and also gave a nice greeting to our church. Rick is in the middle of an election battle with Charlie Smithgall, so he was glad to have a peaceful morning. He loved the sermon as well!  Eleven years of wonderful ministry. A great joy and blessing!

Well I am three weeks and two days out and doing great. I am down a total of 62 lbs - that's 21 lbs since the operation. I am back at a full workout schedule at the gym. Yesterday I got back to lifting the same amount of weights as I was lifting pre-op. And day by day I am feeling stronger! Food wise - I am in my purred stage - which means that I blenderize just about everything I eat in order for it to easily "slide down" and get absorbed. So my menu is basically eggs, ricotta cheese, chicken, tuna, yams, mashed potato, cottage cheese, soups and puddings.  I mix it up enough, so it is fine. Next Thursday I get to move up to soft food. The amazing thing is that I eat 4-6 oz. of food and I feel like it was Thanksgiving afternoon. My only struggle has been coffee. I used to love a cup (or 2 or 3 or 4) during the day, but my taste buds and my stomach's toleration of a cup is small. I don't think I have finished a cup yet. My goal for October is 16 lbs. I am shooting for 20-22lbs. that would be 5 lbs a week. That would get me down to 80 lbs and in line to reach 100 for Christmas - that would make it easier for me to slide down chimneys!
